What a great turnout today. Thanks to all the rowers who participated and to everybody who stopped by to watch. Special congratulations go out to Don Fouts, Club President, who took home the coveted Ye Olde Pukebucket, signifying first place and of course signifying the unending respect of his peers. Well done, Don. And congrats, too, to Admiral Brandenburg, for giving Don a run for his money. When the Admiral is asked the question, he answers.

I'm sorry I couldn't make it, boys. I'm close to finishing my disseration in Anglo-Saxon Economics, and I just couldn't get away from London for the weekend. The 5K is a very, very hard test on the erg, though. That is almost the length of the Boat Race, which is 4 miles! Congratulations to all! Next, the SIU Crew should calmly turn its bow toward the 2K Championships in February.
Cheers!

Thanks Becky. We had a great turnout. The folks who did not have much (if any) experience on the erg and did this challenge deserve special recognition. It is hard for anyone and even more difficult if you don't have some previous "times" at different pieces (lengths of work--1000-10,000 m) so you can gauge how fast to go.
Professor Magnuson and President Fouts were at their organizational bests. This was a first time effort at holding an event and it went off flawlessly. Thanks also to the younger Magnusons for their race preparations and starting us correctly.
Finally, the Rec Center and Jeff Goelz are to be thanked for purchasing the new ergs and promoting the event.
