The hard core local members of the Rowing Club gathered at the Admiral's house on Sunday, March 29.
Some Newcastles were popped open and we watched the 2007 Boat Race, won by Rebecca Dowbiggin and the Light Blues of Cambridge.
The Admiral cooked up some fish & chips and hush-puppies and we had a wonderful meal together, finished off with a dessert contributed by K-Cox from a cake-walk the evening before.
We reconvened in the living room to watch the DVR'ed 2009 Boat Race. As the crews approached Chiswick Eyot, the umpire issued warnings — first to Cambridge and then to Oxford. There was some clashing of blades, after which Oxford pulled ahead. The Dark Blues increased their lead over the remainder of the course to win by a convincing 12 seconds (3½ lengths).
Feeling badly for our favorite strawberry-blonde cox, we moved out to the garage. The Admiral removed all the seats and shoes and everyone sanded. For quite some time. It's astonishing how much wood is in a 4+!
Four pieces of wood were found to be in need of some repair and Bill offered to make those repairs. Carol thought we were very nearly finished with the sanding and after Bill makes the needed repairs, Carol will varnish all the wood! Thank you, Carol!
Once varnished, the Kisker will be ready for water in 2009!
The Rowing Club is grateful to the extended Brandenburg family. Not only did they provide a winter haven for Hartwig E. Kisker, but their willingness to pitch in with the necessary maintenance work is deeply appreciated.

(President Jensen was sicker ’n a non-victorious strawberry-blonde cox and Vice President Shovlin was out of town.)
