The 2008 Concept2 Fall Rowing Challenge has begun (September 15-October 15). There are some interesting incentives from Concept2, both for individual and team participation. The big prize, available only by drawing however, is a new erg. To qualify for the drawing, a team must have at least 10 members and at least 10 members must row at least 100,000 meters between September 15 and October 15. Other stuff is available, but this is just a great time to try and get new members, get them to log their meters online at Concept2's web site and get them hooked on erging. Anyway, all the details are available at Concept2's web site: www.concept2.com/us/motivation/challenges/team/frc.asp

The Challenge is indoors-only, so we're “Dawgs Out of Water”…

Margaret French has shown up again. She is 65 and rows for the Saratoga YMCA and kicked my butt in last year's FRC. I don't think she rows a great deal the rest of the year, but come Sept 15 she puts down her knitting and says "oh dear, I better get started," and then cranks out 20k per day. I don't know how fast she rows and it doesn't matter-20k is 20k.

M. French looks to be a dangerous woman indeed. At this moment, I believe the Admiral is nearly tied with her. This year, with the help of outsourced meters, the Admiral will wrestle the prize from her monstrous arms.
