Weather could be dicey, but let's plan the outing, anyway. And remember: 5 p.m. really means 4:45!

I'm sorry, but Thursday is bad for me. Earlier, I just checked the kids schedule and it was free, but I neglected to look at mine. I've got two Dr. appt.s

Three words come to mind: blow them off!
Anyway, where can we find a replacement oarsman for Thursday?

Okay then. Shoot. It is with profound sadness, therefore, that I hereby cancel Thursday's outing.
I've got out-of-town family here on Sunday....
What about next week?

Next week: any day but Thursday. We're having a hard time getting to more than once a week, aren't we?

Monday at 5p (4:45) again? Friday would be great for me, but I think Monday is the next day when we can all make it, right?

To Thom's point: This is why I think we shouldn't get too gung-ho about putting together a collegiate racing team to compete against Wash U and Murray State. It would take a lot of coordination, a monumental amount of coordination, and everybody at SIU in a rowing-coordinating capacity has too much other stuff going on to monitor the details on a daily basis. Still, we have a great boat, and we have great ergs. If outings on the water for the time being are only once a week, we should do that. In the meantime, ergs? Ergs? Ergs? Point being: If the club wants to take the boat out more than once a week, the club has to recruit the people to do it: coxes, in particular. Or we have to have summer outings at 6 a.m. Alan?

Speaking of ergs -- at C2, our team only has two members for the current year and only 130,612 meters or 65,306 meters per member.
Sigh -- if 6 a.m. is the water, then I guess I have to reset my alarm... But wait, does 6 a.m. mean 5:45? ;-)

I miss my erg, third from the end. Sniff sniff. My membership has ended, and I think I would have to pay for the whole summer in order to keep going. So, sadly, there will be no more erging in Carbondale for me, but I do plan to pick it up and resume logging meters once I go.
I would definitely be up for any outdoor group workout in the morning. Hiking, anyone? I've just been running/stretching/planking on my own.

Several points to discuss on this thread.
1. My back still hurts like hell. It wasn't the rowing that hurt it; it was the chain sawing last Sunday. Monday's row was fun.
2. Dawn, get a daily use pass for the Rec. You have your fitness level at a high level. Spend a couple of bucks three days per week and keep it going.
3. Our eclectic group of rowers is always going to have a difficult time getting together. There is just too much else we have to do. But what are our expectations and hopes? To some extent we are chum on the water trying to draw students to the sport and develop a good sports club. Most Masters rowing is sculling, due in large part to the difficulty in getting 4-9 people together at a specific time. Yet, I'm having too much fun in the four to write it off for us. I'll be willing to go for 6AM rows and would like to figure someway of doing a fall race.
4. Coxes. My wife Carol and daughter Katie,10, are both willing to cox. There will be rigging height adjustments.
5. I miss the Bear and Jim. If Jim didn't have that Cambridge oar shoved so far up his arse, he could be the Donald McDonald of our club.
6. Most rows we take in the four will have to be for technique and will be the physical equivalent of steady state pieces on the erg. Therefore, I suggest we continue erging.
7. Anyone wishing to continue sculling should call me.

Good news -- I can go to the rec for free through May 30. I will definitely not make the million-meter club by that date, but I'll do what I can. Last night I erged a 5K. I am definitely interested in 6AM rows. I'm also interested in sculling, so I may have to bug you about that, Alan!
