Just a reminder: The cox and I will be at the "boathouse" at 4:45 p.m. today and tomorrow. Weather should be great for two fine afternoons of rowing!

I can't wait! We have been unbelievably lucky in terms of having the weather cooperate with our water schedule. Plus, my shoes have dried just in time for this evening's row:).

Thom, I can only assume that your camera will be present. I will also bring mine, unless the Magmiral objects. It looks like a great day for some good shots.

Camera has almost-fresh batteries and I cleared all images this morning! :-)
I posted a thought over the weekend that we should print some images and tack-'em-up on the Rec bulletin board by the ergs with our 2K Challenge sheets. The Rowing Club might attract more members if they're drawn by the boat and the water. Not that "Boat vs. Erg" makes much difference to us, right?!? ;-)

Thom, I am absolutely in agreement. My one concern, however, is that the collective good looks of our crew (especially the soon-to-be-renamed Kisker) might distract people from the real message. Thank God for PhotoShop.

Tremendous outing last night, folks. That was awesome. This afternoon should be warmer and calmer. With luck, we can do all the way to the dam!

Here are some reference distances:
TON Dock to southern bay turnaround 1K TON Dock to area of main body where we turned around because of waves 1.2 K TON Dock to Dam 4 K
Also, I will bring along a GPS this evening that will give us speed as kph and distance in meters (plus a nice little map tracking our route). I was thinking that we might to two 500 m pieces going to the dam and two coming back, interspersed with easy paddling or drill. Somewhat interesting is that the ergs are calibrated to sweep fours. If you can row a 500/2:00 split on the erg, you cannot do it in a single. But the four is ostensibly a faster boat and it should be possible.
For reference 15 kph= 9.3 mph= 500 m/2:00 13 knp=8.1 mph= 500 m/2:30 10 kph=6 mph= 500 m/3:00

Thank you, Alan. I never knew that about the ergs. It sounds like we will be getting some decent meterage even on the water. As a sidenote to photophiles and photophobes alike, a rower friend of mine once had the opportunity to pose with his crew for a paid photo shoot. I believe he made a whole fifty bucks, people. Just something to consider...

Speaking of time, let's do our best to conserve it this evening (Mag must return cox at reasonable hour). Thus: Be ready to move boat and oars from "boathouse" at 4:45 precisely. When you first arrive, make sure to bring your portable objects - water bottles, camera bags, tools - to the lower dock. That way, when the boat is in the water, we don't have to wait an extra five minutes to launch. Ideally, we should be able to effect a complete launch in fifteen minutes. That way, we can do a nice practice and return the boat to its place in the "boathouse" by 6:15.

Absolutely fantastic time on the water this afternoon. Our lovely cox informs me that we're smoothing the boat out...whatever that means. Also, thanks for following this ex-foreman's logistical nitpicking. Can't wait to take the boat out again!
